Quick Overview of Resources for Curriculum Building

This web page provides a very brief sample of information resources available for curriculum work. Follow these steps to learn the procedures for building lesson plans, unit plans and other curriculum projects. Links to more complete sets of resources are provided throughout this page. A map indicates the relationship of this page to the CROP site.

  1. A short tutorial is available to teach basic data handling skills.

  2. Select the appropriate Unit Plan model. You will also need to refer to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for appropriate objectives.

  3. Copy the Unit Plan data from its page and paste it into your word processor file.

  4. Find and copy into your unit plan template the goals and objectives you need from the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCS). The link to NCSCS is in the Unit Plan web page. Put these objectives in the appropriate place in your curriculum model.

  5. Use the Yellow Page section of InfoSpace - The Ultimate Directory to find businesses with experts in the area of your curriculum theme or topic. Other Person Search tools are available.

  6. Hunt for media/curriculum materials stored on shelves, e.g.: video, audio, CD, books, articles.

  7. Hunt the Internet and its resources stored on computer hard drives located around the globe.

    Select and Order

  8. Search, select, and order items relevant to your planning.

Tools in this section help identify potentially newer or better resources than those available locally, but to actually determine their quality for unit and lesson planning, you would also have to find the title in local libraries, order them through InterLibrary Loan or purchase them through bookstores in order to preview and study them. InterLibrary Loan can take days or weeks so planning well ahead of schedule is necessary to take advantage of this resource.

This section is a tiny subset of the Resources for Children and Young Adult's web page which is a subset of the Physical Library - Global web page with additional resources more appropriate for finding adult resources. That is, all the links on this page are integrated with the other information retrieval resources provided on the Physical Library - Global web page.
