QUESTION

6. What geographic feature do you think has had the greatest economic impact on North Carolina? Explain your answer using specific examples.

STUDENT RESPONSE NUMBER ONE

The geographic feature that had an impact on North Carolina was the straving somieli. The reason why I said that is cause people where down there straving without any food (still are). The impact that it gives on us is that we people take advantage of what we have today when they should be greator of what they have cause the people that are straving would love to the food that we trow away today.

The geographic feature that had the greatest economic impact on North Carolina was the mountains. They have provided the state with lots of money from tourism. Many people from all over the country come to the mountain and spend money. This helps the state.

STUDENT RESPONSE NUMBER THREE

I think the North Carolina coastline has had the greatest economic impact. The Outer Banks and the shallow water around them keep North Carolina from having a large port. So North Carolina didn't develop any large industries along the coast. The area depended upon farming because the soil is good and the weather is mild. The crops are taken throughout the state to be sold. They can also be shipped out through the ports of Wilmington and Morehead City.

STUDENT RESPONSE NUMBER FOUR

The geographic feature that has had the greatest economic impact in North Carolina is the Piedmont plateau with its gently rolling hills. It has plenty of water which was once used to power waterwheels for the lumber and textile mills. The soil which is not as fertile as the coastal plains is still good for farming. Some of the states largest beef, dairy, turkey and chicken farms are in the Piedmont Plateau. Tobacco and corn farms are in this area. It is easy to take these products to market because there are no physical barriers like mountains to slow trucking down. The weather is mild at least not as cold as the mountains. This has helped to attract a large number of people to this area. Big cities like Charlotte are in the Piedmont Plateau.
