Kid Safe Web Search Systems

"Kid safe" systems generally have two outstanding features. Their vocabulary is more age-level appropriate. Their content is managed for age-level appropriate topics. They specifically exclude many more adult topics.

That a web site advertises itself as kid-safe is not in itself a sufficient green light for educational use. Much as one should with any instructional resource, spend some time with unknown sites to determine more about their character. There are many other issues besides vocabulary and content topics. Their are various Internet parent guides that are well worth the time to share with parents and other educators.

If you know of other web sites that are claiming to be "kid-safe" and child oriented please let me know (Houghton@wcu.edu). For the most effective use of your search time, use a top-down strategy when using the Kid-Safe search system pyramid below.
